Notes from my reading

What I kept. What I’d question.

Three reading notes connected to the essays. Each has a useful idea, a limit and a place it meets my own practice.

Essentialism

What stays with me

The useful distinction is between doing more efficiently and choosing what deserves doing. Protecting the ability to choose comes before improving the calendar. A buffer only helps if it leaves room for judgement, rather than becoming another empty slot to fill.

What I’d question

“Less but better” can become a tidy description of avoidance. Cutting a project is only a good decision if it makes room for something worth doing. A smaller list does not prove that the remaining work matters.

Atomic Habits

What stays with me

A repeatable system is useful because it lowers the effort of beginning. The sharper point in these highlights is that the system will pursue whatever it measures. A streak, a score or a completed task can become the target even when it has stopped serving the original purpose.

What I’d question

Consistency needs a direction and permission to revise it. Repeating an unhelpful action more reliably is still an unhelpful result. The review of the habit matters as much as the cue that starts it.

Digital Minimalism

What stays with me

The interesting question is what a tool makes room for. Removing an app can leave the same empty hour behind. A better choice starts with the activity, relationship or piece of work the tool is supposed to support, then gives the tool a bounded role.

What I’d question

Demanding leisure does not have to become productive leisure. Turning every hobby into evidence of discipline can recreate the pressure the digital clear-out was meant to remove. Some things deserve attention without producing a public result.
